What does he mean «the blood of the martyrs»?
The symbolic vision that the three children of Fatima had during the apparition of July 13th 1917, the third part of the secret, concludes her with a hard image but, at the same time, of amazing hope.
The «two Angels» that «picked up the blood of the Martyrs», «each with a crystal aspersorium in his hand», they simply represent the invitation to pick up in way «fit to the truth of the God of Israel» (this seems in the Apocalypse the meaning of the "crystal") the testimonies of those people that have known from near Jesus Christ, his cross and the life that he has brought to the world.
The testimonies of the Martyrs, or rather of whom has given the life for Christ and of whom has faithfully written of Him, will bring great advantages to the believers and to everybody, in our time.
Let's hock therefore us to «to pick up the blood of the Martyrs».

Lucia affirmed that the third part of the secret would have been more comprehensible after the 1960. Now, examining the words of the secret, we find those «arrows», with which they have killed the Pope, representative of all the Church, and different other people. This image cannot be a premonition for the future, because the arrows are weapons in disuse; instead it remembers martyrs of a distant past.
Really very few martyrs had killed with the arrows and the symbol seems to point out a particular situation, where many people suffered the martyrdom hereby. Such a situation was realized to Gamla, the city that had given origin to the sect of the Zealots and then was converted to Jesus Christ.
The martyrdom of Gamla happened under the empire of Nero. He had become emperor in 13 October of year 57. We notice that 13 October is the date of the last apparition of Fatima. According to the archaeologist Margherita Guarducci, even the first Pope, Peter, received the martyrdom October 13, in year 64 (in fact in 67), just in the tenth anniversary of the kingdom of Nero. Now, to well think us, Nero was he cause of a mysterious state of all that concerns the Hebrews and the Christians: the beginning of his persecutions against the Christians had accompanied by the ruin of the Jewish nation.
We would neither need remember that John Paul II in 1981 was seriously wounded from a Moslem, with two «hits of fire weapon», May 13, date that recalls the first apparition of Mary at Fatima. And the Pope replied with the pardon and with a continuous search of dialogue.
By that the Lady, at Fatima, has invited to act: to pick up the testimonies of the martyrs (= "witness") that have rendered the life for the faith in the unique God and in Jesus Christ, particularly the testimonies of the Popes. But let's remember that their martyrdom has big importance if it is testimony rendered to facts really historical. That's why the invitation of Mary induces us also to pick up the testimonies of those "martyrs", the Evangelists and the other authors of the New Testament, that have testified the historical facts faithfully in writing. If so, their testimony is all to rediscover.
The Gospels, the Apocalypse and the entire New Testament, to their turn, explain that the Ancient Testament is been accomplished in the historical facts, to benefit of all those that sincerely get near God.
In substance, the Queen of the Heaven and of the Earth invites us to attribute the proper historical relief to the events of two thousand years ago, to make them again popular in the world of today. This could be made contemplating those supernatural events, as they have happened, in the real historical circumstances. It is not an arduous enterprise, because we can reconstruct today the situation and the historical facts of that time in more and more precise way, as it had not been possible from year 73 onwards.
The third part of the secret of Fatima has surprised, because it didn't contain spectacular prophecies. But it reserves surprises without end with that invitation, hidden in the symbols, to act so that is satiated the thirst of the souls that make their way to God and, through them, God manifests his mercy for the whole humanity.
That's now that the Pope is praying, «half trembling with halting step, afflicted with pain and sorrow», «for the souls of the corpses he met on his way». He has it done particularly Monday 7 May 2001 on the Golan, for the dead of the war in Holy Land. He continually prays for the souls living oppressed by the injustices and by the sins. Afflicted, he asks pardon of the sins committed from the Christians, so that have removed the obstacles that could impede to the souls (people) to make their way to God and to Jesus Christ.
That's now that we need obey to the message of Fatima and pick up in the more transparent way «the blood of the martyrs», conscious that it today is us possible, by the means which we arrange, individualize and pick up testimonies about Christ adequate to our time.
Martyrs of yesterday and of today
The martyrs of these two thousand years are witnesses of how the prophecies of Jesus have come true. Caution is needed, objectivity, but we have to see that God has inspired the Apocalypse, that is then what Jesus has said, to forearm the Church towards the different situations that she would have had to face. It would perhaps have been impossible, before the 20th century and the apparitions of Fatima, to notice that Jesus had pronounced different prophecies and that these were punctually realized.
If the numerous martyrs of the first centuries testify us the fall of Jerusalem - Babylon and the victory of Jesus Christ, those of the last centuries, that are more many, testify us the period of liberty granted to the "dragon". But there is then the "new holy city Jerusalem", not to imagine in the measure that we want, because God, Jesus and Maria always surprise us; rather the measure is given us by Maria in her apparitions.
Therefore, with the help of the Apocalypse and with the due caution, let's pick up "the Martyrs' blood" that, through the Apocalypse herself, rejoins us with the Christian origins and with the work of the Messiah, for all the religions.
Besides the fact that so many people have given their life for Jesus Christ and for his Church, is sign that the historical-supernatural truth, testified by the Gospels, has exactly acted in these twenty centuries, renewing the fidelity to the Teacher and Lord.
Yet it was not clear how the historical testimony of the Gospels articulated!
